2011 German Women’s World Cup Prep Class #1

2011 Women's World Cup Cities

For those of you making your way to Germany for the 2011 Women’s World Cup it’s time to start learning your way around the country and a few lines of German wouldn’t hurt either.

The games will be played in Augsburg, Berlin, Bochum, Dresden, Frankfurt, Leverkusen, Mönchengladbach, Sinsheim and Wolfsburg between 26 June and 17 July 2011.  As a former high school Air Force Brat, some of these great cities surround the cities I lived and played soccer in while growing up in Germany (including Ramstein, Kaiserlautern, Landstuhl, Mannheim, Saarbrucken, and Wiesbaden).  I can’t wait to revisit these great places again.

Here’s your first lesson.

How to say ‘Hello’:
Informal between friends.
Hallo, Wie geht’s?

Formal (ie. your boss, someone you don’t know, and sometimes grandparents)

Hallo, Guten Morgen. or Hallo, Guten Tag.

How to Say ‘Goodbye’:
Informal, between friends.
1.) Tschüß
2.) Tchau
Formal (ie. your boss, someone you don’t know, and sometimes grandparents)
Auf Wiedersehen.

How to say ‘Where is the train station?’:

Wo ist der Bahnohof?

How to say ‘Where can I buy a vuvuzuela?’:

Wo kann ich kaufenein vuvuzuela?

That’s the end of today’s lesson.

Stay tuned for more lessons and surprise pop quizzes.

  1. It’s Germany in 2011. I can remember the towns and cities in years ago.Where will the opening
ceremonies take place? will their be a tranportation check point available to Travelers
or does each Fan make their own Plans?
Will their be trips to Specialty restaurant or places of interest? I can recall Tours at the Castle known as Heidelberg and Asst. Wine
Cellers. Is driving still done on the Autoban?
